NFL Flag San Diego recently had its annual Spring Pro Day on April 13th and the event was a huge success, with more than 6,000 attendees. We had a number of professional athletes from the National Football League’s Los Angeles Chargers and two other NFL teams turn out for the event and it thrilled all of the players from our leagues to get the chance to meet some of the most successful athletes at the highest level of organized football. The kids got the opportunity to learn some of the technical skills that have allowed these players to compete at the highest level of football as well as to simply enjoy themselves with their idols and some of the most talented athletes on the planet. This annual event, which we have held since 2015, not only is a chance for our players to learn from the best, but also provides a rare chance for our players from our five leagues across the greater San Diego area to hold their games at the same location in the same time.

NFL Flag San Diego’s Spring Pro Day 2019

Our 2019 Spring Pro Day 2019 took place at Walnut Grove Park in San Marcos for an entire day of fun.  The day was so successful that San Diego local news station KUSI even featured a spot on the event during their weekend news broadcast, and NFL Flag San Diego co-founder Greg Williams was interviewed by the same station the night before the event. NFL players from a number of teams participated. Multiple members of the Los Angeles Chargers came out to participate, including long-time Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers, defensive backs Desmond King and Casey Hayward and linebacker Denzel Perryman as well as cornerback Darrius Slay from the Detroit Lions, and linebacker Kenny Young from the Baltimore Ravens. The players were able to not only sign autographs for the youth players, but also to get involved in working with our young players on their footwork and other fundamental skills that have helped each of these players make it to the top of the football world.

As a part of the Pro Day event, we also had all five of our leagues from around the San Diego play their regular weekly games at the same location.  This was a rare opportunity for all of our players, coaches and athletes to all come together in a single location to participate in their weekly youth flag football games. Despite only having been around for a few short years, our league has grown exponentially to become the largest year-round flag football league in California, with five different sites throughout the greater San Diego area. This is not only a testament to the great experience our kids are having, but to the popularity of flag football as a whole.
