NFL Flag San Diego founders, Chris and Greg Williams, were recently recognized by the city of San Marcos for their contributions to the community by giving the youth of San Marcos and the surrounding areas the opportunity to compete in a fun sport that builds teamwork and offers the chance to participate in competitions at both a local and national level.  By bringing youth flag football to the San Diego area in starting NFL Flag San Diego in 2013, Chris and Greg have given thousands of local boys and girls the chance to compete and build their skills in a safe, non-contact environment with guaranteed playing time.

About NFL Flag San Diego

Every child, no matter his or her skill level and whether he or she is competing in NFL Flag San Diego’s recreational or competitive division, is guaranteed to play the majority of every game.  This spirit of inclusion, team-building and skill development in a safe and nurturing atmosphere that Chris and Greg Williams have brought to the youth of the greater San Diego area has enriched the lives of countless boys and girls who have participated in NFL Flag San Diego’s youth flag football leagues over the four years it has been operating.  In addition to regular competitions at the local level, NFL Flag San Diego teams have also regularly been chosen to compete at the national level.  With the recent announcement that Team High Intensity of NFL Flag San Diego was selected by the Los Angeles Rams to participate as the team’s representative in the national NFL Flag Championships powered by USA Football in Orlando in 2018, this will mark the third year in a row that NFL Flag San Diego is sending a team to the NFL Flag national championships.  In addition, because NFL Flag San Diego is an official program of NFL 60, a program started by the National Football League to encourage youth to be active at least sixty minutes per day, participants in NFL Flag San Diego have the opportunity to meet NFL players through events like the organization’s annual spring NFL Player Game Day.  NFL Flag San Diego serves more than 5,000 youth each year with its more than 400 teams.

It’s All About the Kids at NFL Flag San Diego

In its short four years in existence, NFL Flag San Diego has turned into a platform for San Diego youth to not only develop their skills in the game of football but to have experiences that San Diego kids never would have had access to prior to NFL Flag San Diego’s launch in 2013.  Chris and Greg Williams have each dedicated their lives to youth sports and work hard to give San Diego area kids experiences that will impact their lives in a positive way.  As Greg and Chris told Del Sol Magazine in a 2016 piece the magazine did on the league, they started NFL Flag San Diego “with the goal to provide a safe and exciting football experience for young players that mirrors the vibrant environment of the NFL.”  Chris and Greg’s vision for NFL Flag San Diego was to create a league that promotes safety, builds confidence, and provides equal playing time for all players.

Although the recognition given to Chris and Greg Williams by the city of San Marcos only specifically recognized the two of them, the impact that NFL Flag San Diego has made on the boys and girls of the San Diego area would not be possible without the hard work of the coaches, families, referees and staff that make NFL Flag San Diego possible.  This award recognizes the contributions those individuals, almost all of whom are volunteers, have made to the lives of San Diego youth much more than just the contribution that Chris and Greg have made to the youth of San Marcos and surrounding areas.
