NFL Flag San Diego, which just recently began play on its annual summer league, is also busy gearing up for a successful fall 2018 season.  The league, which only started a few short years ago in 2013, is now the largest year-round youth flag football league in California, with over 400 teams and 5,000 athletes participating in our spring, fall, spring and summer leagues each year.  This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes, coaches and parents in making the league so successful.  However, it is also a testament to the unique format offered by NFL Flag San Diego.  We offer not only a large number of age-groups, but also competitive and recreational divisions, each of which has its own unique draw to certain segments of our athletic population, helping fuel our league’s success.  Offering the two different divisions has contributed to our league’s explosive growth over the past five years and will continue to fuel our future growth.  If your son or daughter is interested in participating in one of the nation’s fastest growing sports in California’s largest and most dynamic youth flag football league, then register for our Fall 2018 Season today before registration closes on July 16th.

Our Competitive and Recreational Divisions

Perhaps the greatest difference between NFL Flag San Diego and other youth flag football leagues your son or daughter could participate in are our two separate divisions, the recreational and competitive divisions.  Each offers a unique experience for our male and female athletes and their parents to choose from.  Each has different formats that enable our girls and boys to choose from two different sets of objectives regarding why they are interested in participating in youth flag football and what they are hoping to gain from their participation.

The Competitive Division

Our competitive division divides our youth athletes by their birth dates and features competition in the 6 and under, 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under divisions.  A child’s age as of August 1, 2018, will determine his/her age for purposes of the Fall 2018 League.  The competitive division is a five-on five-format, with a maximum of ten children on each team.  We permit both players and coaches to register for our competitive division either individually or as an entire team.  Our coaches are expected to give equal playing time to each child on both offense and defense but playing time for each individual player is ultimately left up to team coaches.  Players in our competitive division play at a quicker pace than in our recreational division and the competition is typically fiercer.  Many of our competitive division participants have been playing together as a team for years and compete in this division to sharpen their skills against other highly skilled players and teams and to assist them in preparing to compete in regional and national tournaments.

The Recreational Division

The recreational division divides children by grade level and offers plays in the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, first and second grades, third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades, and seventh and eighth grade age-group divisions.  In the recreational division, games are played in a six-on-six format with a maximum of nine players per team, with each player guaranteed to play three out of four quarters in every single game.  We take our commitment to equal playing time for each child so seriously in our recreational division that our referees track each child’s participation to ensure he or she plays the required amount in each game.  Our recreational league places an emphasis on our players and coaches having fun, learning the basic fundamentals of youth football, and enabling our players to develop an initial understanding of the value of teamwork and sportsmanship.

The Fall 2018 NFL Flag San Diego Fall League
