NFL Flag San Diego: Helping Our Children to Become More than Just Better Athletes

At NFL Flag San Diego, we are strong believers in the importance of the participation of our country's youth in organized sports. It is not only important for our young men and women to get out and be active during a time in our nation's history when we are facing a national obesity epidemic that is even now striking kids in record numbers. Numerous studies also have shown that youth who participate in organized sports are more confident, have greater leadership skills, and generally achieve better grades than students who do not participate in sports.

Therefore, participating in sports as a child is good for your son or daughter for more than just developing his or her athletic skills, but also helps instill a lifetime of fitness, better health, higher earnings, and less risky behavior. This is particularly true for youth athletes who participate in team sports like youth flag football versus individual sports. At NFL Flag San Diego, not only do we believe in the importance of participation in youth sports as a necessary part of a child’s healthy development, but we also offer specific opportunities for children who may need particular encouragement to get out on the field and participate. We do this to enable our athletes to become not only better athletes, but also better, healthier human beings, and students.

Studies Show Kids Who Participate in Youth Sports Are More Confident, More Active, and Earn Better Test Scores than Children Who Are Not Physically Active

Participating in sports has been shown to increase children’s self-confidence, ability to work as a member of a team, and a number of other factors that are important both on the field and in school and later on in the classroom in high school and college, and, eventually, in the workplace.  According to think tank The Aspen Institute's Project Play, physically active children are 1/10 as likely to be obese, achieve up to 40 percent higher scores on standardized tests, are 15 percent more likely to go to college, are less likely to engage in risky behaviors like smoking, drug use, or risky sexual activity, and have 7-8 percent higher annual earnings when they eventually join the work force.

The Opportunities Offered by NFL Flag San Diego for Our Young Athletes' Personal Development

At NFL Flag San Diego, we have specifically designed our league offerings for young athletes with their development as human beings and adults at the forefront of our minds. Our recreational leagues offer our young male and female players the chance to compete in an environment which features less of a pressure to win and focuses more on individual player development. Coaches in our recreational leagues are required to play every athlete for a minimum of three quarters of every game and the referees keep track of each child's participation to ensure this rule is adhered to.  Sometimes a child may not be willing to get outside of his or her comfort zone and this allows them to do so without necessarily pushing them to a point where they never want to return to practice or a game ever again.  There is a fine line between gently encouraging a child to go just outside of his or her comfort zone versus pushing the child to the point where he or she becomes so uncomfortable the child does not want to ever participate in an activity again.

Interested in a Fun and Challenging Athletic Endeavor for Your Children in the San Diego Area?

If you are in the San Diego area and your son or daughter is interested in participating in one of California’s top flag football leagues, then consider NFL Flag San Diego.  Offering both competitive and recreational divisions in a variety of different age-group divisions, our league guarantees every player a significant amount of playing time and gives players the chance to make friends, be a part of a small, tight-knit team, meet current and former National Football League players, and develop lifelong skills that will not only benefit them on the athletic field, but also in the classroom and later on in the workplace.  We have seen children who have come into our leagues as shy wallflowers who had to be dragged out onto the field for their first practice but who have gained confidence slowly week by week and blossomed into confident young men and women by the time a season was over.  While requiring a minimum time commitment with practices only once per week and games once per week, NFL Flag San Diego offers year-round opportunities for children from kindergarten through tenth grade to participate in flag football.  If you have any questions, contact NFL Flag San Diego at (760) 237-8278 or info@nflflagsd.com for more information today.
